Freddie Hilton AKA Kamau Sadiki #115 06 88

Please call: Augusta State Medical Prison 3001 Gordon Hwy, Grovetown GA 30813 Chief Medical Facilitator Dr Alston Warden Philbin (706) 855-4700

From Kakuya Shakur:

It is with a heavy heart that I ask for your support regarding my father, Kamau Sadiki. Many of you may know that my mother is Assata Shakur—human rights activist, revolutionary, author, former member of the Black Liberation Army and Black Panther Party—who is currently hunted by the United States Government and living in exile. My father was also active in the struggle against systemic racial oppression, joining the Black Panther Party at age 17 and the Black Liberation Army at age 19. Until 2002, my father was living in Brooklyn and working for the telephone company when he was arrested and charged with the 31-year-old murder case of an Atlanta police officer. This arrest was an obvious attempt to pressure my family into aiding the FBI with the capture of my mother. Despite a lack of physical evidence or eyewitness testimonies, my father was convicted of murdering an Atlanta police officer some 31 years after it happened and sentenced to life in prison. My father was told that if he did not help the United States capture Assata Shakur, he would die in prison.

Well today, that threat is close to becoming reality. My father has been medically neglected and held in inhumane conditions inside the Augusta State Medical Prison. A wound that began as the size of a penny has now engulfed his left foot, and the prison medical staff is recommending amputation. The Augusta State Medical Prison has a horrendous track record when it comes to surgical outcomes. My father is scared and asking for the immediate attention of a wound care specialist in the hopes of saving his life and his foot.

I know that many of you have worked tirelessly in an effort to protect my family and countless other political prisoners. I humbly thank you and ask that you please spread the word about my father’s condition. He is asking that people call or write to the Chief Medical Facilitator or the warden to demand that he be treated by a wound care specialist.

Sincerely,

Kakuya Shakur
